DOHA

The cities that will host new spaces for art in the next 12 months.

The opening of new museum spaces is a great opportunity for many famous architectural firms.
The work of the architects is not limited to the conception of the structure of the museum, but it allows to highlight the cities that will host their creations, becoming, in some cases, themselves real tourist attractions (for example the Guggenheim in Bilbao).
Here are some of the great works you can’t miss! Who knows maybe they could become the goals of your summer destinations!

The Bauhaus Museum of Dessau and Weimar

bauhaus

On the occasion of the centenary of the Bauhaus movement, two new museums are opened in Weimar and in Dessau; both cities were the headquarters of the renowned architecture school designed by Walter Gropius.
Addenda Architects firm, a young group of architects based in Barcelona, set up the new Bauhaus Museum Dessau, which will be inaugurated on 8 September 2019.
The new headquarters, an airy and bright architecture that covers an area of 3,500 square meters, will host the artworks of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation collection.
The Bauhaus Museum in Weimar, inaugurated last April 6, 2019, was designed by architect Heike Hanada.
The museum building is a concrete parallelepiped with clear shapes; the facades are marked by horizontal cuts, in which LED lamps have been installed, which illuminate the volume and emphasize its geometry.
The museum is built on five levels, three of which host the permanent exhibition, while the ground floor is occupied by the entrance hall and the basement houses a cafeteria and services for the public.

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

The new Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles will be an immersive museum dedicated to the history of cinema. The architecture will be characterized by a huge 40-meter sphere designed by Renzo Piano.
Inside will be organized showings, installations and video shows.
The exhibition space will be occupied by permanent exhibitions and temporary exhibitions instead.
During the inauguration of the museum, scheduled for the summer, will be presented the exhibition dedicated to the famous Japanese director and screenwriter Hayao Miyazaki in collaboration with Studio Ghibli.

National Museum Qatar

National Museum Qatar

The museum, inaugurated on March 28, 2019, was designed by Jean Nouvel and covers an area of 52,000 square meters. The project, which recalls the shape of the desert rose, opens around the palace of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani, son of the founder of modern Qatar.
The aim of the museum is to illustrate and tell the story of the people and territory of Qatar, indeed the exhibition itinerary develops around three themes: Beginnings, Life in Qatar and Building the Nation.
The history of Qatar is explained by the works commissioned to international artists, as well as documentaries, photographs, installation and video material.

Milton Keynes Gallery

Milton Keynes. MK Gallery

The new MK Gallery, located in the city of Milton Keynes in Buckinghamshire, was inaugurated on March 16, 2019.
Designed by the 6a architects studio in close collaboration with the artists Gareth Jones and Nils Norman, the structure expands and incorporates the old gallery building, built in 1999. The new project is a center for the arts that reflects the spirit with which the city of Milton Keynes was created in 1967.
Staying true to the values of the city, the new MK Gallery will be a democratic center for the arts accessible to all: temporary exhibitions will be hosted here, as well as meetings, concerts, family events and workshops.
